Soncillo, Spain The Nationalist attack against Santander began on August 14th 1937. On the right wing of the operation Italian Forces were under the command of General Ettore Bastico, commanding the C.T.V. composed of the "Littorio Division" (commanded by General Annibale Bergonzoli), "Fiamme Nere" (commanded by General Luigi Frusci) and the so called "Raggruppamento autonomo XXIII Marzo" (commanded by General Francisci). and 2nd Castillian Brigade under Coronel Faurié with a large amount of Italian heavy artillery and air support of abour 70 aircraft. They were opposed by brigades from Santander and Asturias as well as Basque troops. In the area close to Virtus, Bezana and Bricia the Republicans were well dug in awaitng the assault that had been delayed by the Brunete offensive. The Republican command had only a few reserves of infantry, artillery and armour to respond to the Nationalist offensive. This scenario represents 4 days of combat.

A very large scenario, a bit overwhelming for the Nationalist player at first, with so many forces to move, and rugged terrain. Not much attention was paid to unit placement throughout said terrain, as most of the artillery and vehicles assigned to them are trapped in the terrain they were placed, as the delta is too high to navigate. Probably should have made sure roads and such were useable, as several HQ units were unable to move the whole game!

Over all it was great fun, lots of combat and like a campaign within a scenario, I liked it had fun playing against a very good Republican opponent!

Not remotely close for a H2H scenario. Maybe this was meant as a history lesson? The scenario info doesn't say...another flaw by the designer. Don't bother. I think this is the only time in over twenty years I've conceded a game while still in a major victory position. The map is flawed, many areas restricting the exits of wagons and units that mysteriously got in.
Resolve then, that on this very ground, with small flags waving and tinny blasts on tiny trumpets, we shall meet the enemy, and not only may he be ours, he may be us. --Walt Kelly
