[Version 1.1, 24 Dec. 2003, Best played H2H] On the far left wing of Heeresgruppe B, the LXXX Korps was given limited objectives in the Ardennes Offensive. The Korps consisted of two Volksgrenadier divisions and was lacking in trained men as wel as in materiel. Situated on the right, between Wallendorf and Bollendorf was the 276. Volksgrenadier Divison led by General Kurt Möhring. On the left, between Bollendorf and Ralingen was the 212th Volksgrenadier Division led by Generalleutnant Franz Sensfuss. The latter division was considered by far the best of the two, therefore one Regiment of this division was held in reserve when the attack started. Opposing the German forces were thinly spread American units. These were CCA of the 9th Armored Division on the left and the 12th Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division on the right. Early in the morning of 16 December the German attack started off as the Volksgrenadiers crossed the Sauer in rubber assault boats all along the front, while their engineers did their best to construct bridges for the heavy equipment and the few assault guns. Their attempts were greatly hampered by accurate American artillery fire. After crossing, the American strongpoints were quickly under attack and 276. VGD managed to cut off 3 companies of the 60th Armoed infantry batallion just east of Beaufort and drive a deep wedge between the Americans by moving through the deep valley of the Ernz Noire. The Americans responded with counterattacks and relieve attempts made by several task forces. As the rushed CCA of the 10th Armored Division counterattacked on 18 December, the Americans were able to stabilize the situation again. The southern shoulder was jammed, but not yet defeated. [NOTE:] It is legitimate for the Allied player to remove units from the map in the south and the west, to avoid destruction. It is also legitimate to plot indirect fire on the bridge construction sites, thus simultating these sites were quickly discovered by reconaissance planes. Best balance is achieved if both players agree that points gained by destroying rafts will not be counted in the end result. [NOTE!!!: This scenario is recommended to play with dynamic night turns, see documentation]
