The newly formed Pz. Bgde. 112 was rushed to France in late August, 1944. The Bgde. consisted of a few Eastern Front veterans, notably the commander von Versloot, combined with new recruits. On paper, the Bgde. was a formidable force, however it was devoid of essential support elements. The Bgde. moved into positions at Dompaire and were content to await further orders. The Free French Forces in the area, of the 2nd Armored Division, were not content to play a waiting game. They formed three battle groups to attack the Germans. The Free French were battle hardened veterans of three campaigns. Historically, Pz. Bgde. 112 was annihilated, with the remainders going to the 21st Pz. Div. Their downfall was a lack of artillery and air support. The Pz. Bgde. was hit with no less than three flights of rocket firing Typhoons. French civilians in the area also gave excellent information on the movement of the Germans. Enjoy
