Across the Odon! - The Matrix Games version of West Front

Grainville-sur-Odon, 11km W of Caen, France: [Best played against a Human opponent] It was day three of Operation EPSOM, Montgomery's plan to break out west of Caen, and the British were stil full 5km from Odon much less from Orne. The young boys of 'Hitlerjugend' division frustrated every effort by British VIII Corps to make a decisive breakthrough and cross the two rivers. This, however, came at a great cost; the 'Hitlerjugend' ranks were beggining to seriously thin and the division was recieving almost no replacements! On the 27th, after making only marginal progress the previous two days, British hoped to finally break through the German defensive lines and cross Odon. In early morning hours, British made a two pronged strike south, from Cheux and Fonteney, with a reinforced 227th Highland Brigade of 15th Scottish Division and 8th Armoured Brigade, with 11th Armoured Division in support ready to exploit any breakthroughs. Facing them was Wilhelm Mohnke's 26th SS Panzer-Grenadier Regiment, with most of Max Wunche's 12th SS Panzer Regiment in support. Can the British finally reach their objectives on this day or will the determined youngsters of the 'Hitlerjugend' further continue to frustrate British efforts and distrupt their timetables.
