[This scenario is intended to be played with the Blitzkrieg EFII expansion pack installed] [Teamgame] : Stepanovka, on the Mius river. In the aftermath of the Soviet counteroffensive at Kursk, the Germans tried hard not to get overwhelmed! All along the central front the Soviets launched divisions and corps forward seeking to take advantage of the German disorganised formations. In the south, near XXX the 1st Guards Rifle Corps succeeded in capturing a crossing over the Mius river. This part of the front was guarded by the newly formed (and weak) 6th army. The defenders of the German 306 Infantry division were unable to stop the flood of men and tanks from crossing the river. On the July 18th, 6th army commander decided to launch an immediate counteratack, aimed at sealing off the bridgehead and then eliminating it. But this didn't proove so easily done! Although the first Guards Corps rifle divisions were in bad need of rest and replacements, the 2nd Guards Mechanised Corps was ordered into the area for further offensive operations. While it was still taking up it's jump-off positions, three German battlegroups laucnhed the expected attack! Altogether, the bulk of 23rd Panzer and 16th Panzergrenadier were heading straight into a superior force! After several days of hard and vicious fighting, the Soviets retained their bridgehead. Both German divisions were no longer in any condition to resume the attack and went onto the defensive. It was only in the beginning of August that the SS Panzer Korps was able to destroy the bridgehead, but this victory cost the Germans dearly! While the SS Panzer corps was diverted from it's positions near Kharkov, another Soviet thrust succeeded in capturing this city...

six to ten more turns would give the Germans better chance to cross the river.

The Germans have a very balanced and powerful force. The key for the Russians is to develop a tenacious combined arms defense by moving up their large tank force to support the main trench line. One interesting option would be for the Russians to Blitzkrieg the German assault gun force to the south. Properly done, they could possibly destroy the large Nashorn force, most of the German nebelwerfers, and roll up the line.
