NEW REVISION 2.0

The crystal Alpine stars gave way to freezing mists as dawn lightened the mountain cliffs of Hungary. Icy mist and clouds rolled down the alpine valleys to greet the day. Another Carpathian “spring” day. Fitting weather for Wikings, and the Wikings were there. From the freezing mists the 3rd and 5th SS rumbled down from the mountain passes they had fought the last two days to clear. Ahead lay Budapest and a chance to save their brothers who were dying in their Festung.
Also ahead lay the way west, and the US Third Army. If they could clear the Carpathians their way was open to either objective but they were not looking to surrender. As the ice melted from their treads and they dropped towards Budapest these grizzled veterans had only one goal. To kill Ivan, and die alongside their comrades with honor.
In this scenario the three phases of Operation Konrad are combined. Assuming command had not yielded to Hitler’s piecemeal demands they could have concentrated the 3rd and 5th SS for a real chance at Budapest.
These mountains will prove the ultimate test and last offensive for these proud Wikings.

Please see the read me file. Can be played 2v2 teams.

Late war, nasty armor, tough terrain.

Hi Dan, I think you have the German units division numbers incorrect. It was the 3rd & 5th SS divisions that tried to relieve Budapest during Operation Konrad. A good book that covers all 3 phases is titled " The Sword behind the Shield".

version 2.0 Still needs a minimal reworking for better balance. Fun scenario though. For the Russian its a super challenge defending the German side has little to worry about to gain a Major Victory.

My thanks for the kind words gents.
This one kind of got "orphaned" but as is I believe the current version is balanced, or at least as balanced as I can get it.

The scenario actually does a good job of showing why big armored forces rarely clashed in the mountains during WWII.
It's difficult.

Regards and salutations to all Blitzers.
