Das Reich to Dorogobuzh - The Matrix Games version of East Front II

Dorogobuzh, Russia: [Best Played as Axis vs Computer with FOW and all options On]: The SS "Das Reich" Division pulled into position to the north of Yelnia on the left flank of the 10. Panzer Division. Once initial defensive positions were established, the Division was assigned the task of seizing the Yelnia - Dorogobuzh road. The motorcyclists had advanced and captured the small town of Mas'kovo by storm but were lacking the offensive strength to push further. Supporting mobile elements were assigned to assist with the push out of Mas'kovo. The remainder of the Division was held up in the hills and woods around Rozhdestvo. With fierce determination, the infantry of "Das Reich" advanced into the fortified positions with the goal of seizing the vital road to Dorogobuzh. The first objectives, Hill 270 and the village of Rozhdestvo. The Russians defending in depth with plenty of heavy weapons, supporting artillery and tanks nullified the attackers. Worse than the stubborn Russians, was the mud. After a heavy rainfall the roads and ground turned into a quagmire making the battle ahead seemed impossible. [2.04 UPDATE]
