Fabulbattyn, 15km S of Szekesfeherver, Hungary: [Best played against Human opponent] March 1945 sees the last remains of the still-proud Waffen-SS fighting hard in southern Europe trying to recapture the elusive city of Budapest. After the weather takes a dismal turn for the worse, the Russians launch their own counterattack. With the Hungarian troops disintegrating General Wohler calls off the offensive and orders the 6th SS Panzer Army over to the defensive. After reaching further than any other unit, and within 25 miles of Budapest, an exceedingly irate Joachim Peiper halts his advance and takes over the defense of the main Budapest-Vienna road. Thinking the German forces are fleeing in disarray, the Russians follow recklessly. South of Szekesfeherver, Peiper emplaces the remnants of his battered Kampfgruppe in ambush for the pursuing Russians, for one last final surprise. For one last dance with the devil...

A very exciting scenario with a wide open feel to it. A variety of options open to the Soviets if they can be careful to avoid a ambush from the King Tigers. As for the Germans the large numbers of IS2 Armour may prove to be difficult to handle.

Dancing with the Devil is an interesting EF II scen that pits some of the heaviest German and Soviet armor aginst one another. The reson I considered this scenario slightly pro German is because the axis begins the scenario completely set up and ready to receive the red charge, whilst the Soviets must set up their attack while taking long lange tank and artillery fire - no small task at all. The Germans also get a healthy amount of artillery, and I blind-shelled Pip relentlessly, causing damage via loaded trucks. This is unavoidable, as entry area for the Russians is quite small, and I was in the process of getting the entire area spotted when he resigned. The solution, I believe, is to attacl from one side of the board, not down the middle. This would make it much more difficult for the German to flank the Russian.
Thus, what is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy's strategy.

Good late war struggle with plenty of big tanks!

Nice game for both sides.
I create and revise: Order of Battles, Table of Equipments, Weapon Values for Modern Wars (in work: DG Lebanon War 1982 - 1985, DG Falklands War and again CWE!)

Very disappointing Phillip Baker stock scenario. Fantasy OOBs. Late war scenario (March 1945), a time period when the German military was suffering huge losses in both men and material, but German OOB has 9x King Tigers, 6x Panthers, 7x 88mm ATs, all SPA artillery (No towed guns), a nearly full strength Panzergrenadier battalion, and an engineer company! The Russian OOB HQ formations are really strange. 2x Brigade, 6x Regimental, and 1x Battalion HQs for a small/medium Complexity 6 scenario? Also, the Russian Commander units and command formations look wrong. Also, the Russian OOB has no AT guns and no scout / recon units! The Russian inadequate OOB forces him to use his JS-II heavy tanks and front line SMG and engineer units to guard the flanks, taking these valuable units away from any offensive action. The map terrain and design strongly favors the defending German forces with fortified units on hilltops with long LOS across mostly open terrain. My opponent and I played about 8 turns and than gave up on it. Really, the only thing I liked about this scenario was its title.

The Russian player needs more smoke...two smokes is pretty ridiculous. 8-10 would be more appropriate...especially with the visibility as currently set.
