SS Kampfgruppe 'Nord' was formed from Totenkopfstandarten 6 and 7 as well as Recon, Flak and Artillery units of the Waffen SS. This KG was not able to complete it's training before it was sent to the Russo - Finish border to take the town of Salla the initial objective of XXXVI Corps offensive to isolate Murmansk. At Salla the Soviets have a veteran Rifle Division whose attached engineers have built fortifications, laid mines and cleared deep killing zones.
