Yelnia: [Best Played versus Human Opponent]: Yelnia, a small city on the Densa, 75km SE of Smolensk, and the high ground surrounding it were strategically vital for anyone whom wanted to capture Moscow. So important, the capture of them were listed along side Smolensk in the strategic objectives for Army Group Centre. The Russians knew this, and used the important road junction and high ridges as a defensive barrier to attempt to stop the Blitzkrieg. Around the town, the civilians had built a wide antitank ditch; the overlooking hills were covered in fortifications. The town was defended stubbornly by elements of the 107th Rifle Division. Assigned the task of taking the town was the 10. Panzer Division. Much of the armour strength of the division had since broke down due to the constant battering by the terrible conditions of the Russian roads, and worse yet; the dust. To take the town, the 69th Rifle Regiment had to advance, yard by yard under murderous gunfire. [2.04 UPDATE]
