Intended for play as Human vs Either AI or Head to Head
Scenario Briefing: The Polish counteroffensive on the Bzura River got off to a good start on September 9th-10th, overwhelming the 30th Infantry Division and pushing as far south as Orzokow. Johannes Blaskowitz, commander of the German 8th Army, responded quickly, ordering the two infantry divisions of XIII Army Corps to break off their pursuit of the remnants of Army Lodz to counter the new threat. By September 11th, the Polish counteroffenisve had stalled and on the 12th the attacking Polish forces returned to their start line.
Late on September 11th, Zygmunt Bohusz-Szyszko's 16th Infantry Division, part of Mikolaj Boltuc's operational group, was tasked with establishing a bridgehead on the southern bank of the Bzura at Lowicz. Held strongly by the 24th Infantry Division on September 9th, the town had largely been abandoned by the time the Poles arrived and Bohusz-Szyszko's division encountered only light resistance from the arriving 18th Infantry Division as it occupied the town by dawn on September 12th.
The Poles would hold Lowicz for just one day. Having learned that Knoll-Kownacki's operational group had retreated its starting positions, Army Pomorze commander Wladyslaw Bortnowski ordered the 16th Infantry Division to abandon its bridgehead at Lowicz and establish defensive positions on the northern bank of the Bzura. The German 18th Infantry Division reoccupied the town on the 13th. Boltuc's decision to withdraw from Lowicz would prove to be a costly mistake. Soon after the Poles abandoned the town, Boltuc's operational group received orders from General Kutrzeba to launch a new attack in the direction of Skiernewice. The 16th Infantry Division would have to fight for Lowicz again, this time against an enemy that arrived in force.
Recommended Rules: (Default)
