Scenario Briefing: The days prior to the capture of Csillag Hill (point 159) by the 2nd SS-Panzer Division fierce armored battles were fought, so both sides needed a break. While the Germans sent their armor to the rear and others to help the 44th Infantry Division attacking Aba, the Soviets launched an unexpected infantry assault led by Major General Nekrasov's 68th Guards Rifle Division, assisted by Major General Lilenkov's fatigued 36th Guard Rifle Division. By this time the 2nd SS-Panzer Division had only a combat strength of 1200 men in its 5 battalions in the area. Both sides lacked armored support.
At the end of the day the Soviets managed to recapture the Csillag hill, which provoked a powerful armored counterattack the next day by the 2nd SS-Panzer Division. (See #45_0311_33a_II_SS-Panzer_Corps_Csillag_Hill_Round_3.
