Date: August 14th, 1943 - Size: Medium - Location: Zhizdra
Intended for play as Russian vs. AI
Designer Notes: This scenario covers the offensive of the 50th Army and the 11th Army against Zhizdra. Historically, the 50th Army was transferred from the Western Front to the Bryansk Front for this operation, but due to the limitation in Corps Attachments options I have left this army with the Western Front.
Scenario Briefing: As a result of the Soviet advance on Karachev and the Western Front offensive in the Spas-Demensk area in the Smolensk sector, the situation was difficult for the German troops defending the area east of the Bolva River. Concerned that his communications would be cut off, General Model ordered a withdrawal during the night of August 13-14. The movement was undetected by the 50th and 11th Army until the morning of August 14th. In the early hours of that morning both armies began the pursuit of the German units, attacking in the direction of Zhizdra and Khastovichi. On the 15th of August, the 2nd Guards Cavalry Corps joined the offensive with the objective of cutting the railway line between Bryansk and Sukhinichi. This offensive was the first preparatory moves against Bryansk that would become a full attack launched on August 18th and run parallel to Operation Suvorov, the liberation of Smolensk.
Recommended Rules: (Default)
Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.

Has making of a good scenario, but the VPs or victory conditions must be modified.
Even if the Soviet player can capture all the VP locations, those VP only equal a major loss. Nearly all the first two days spent trying to get engaged in the central and southern parts of the German defense. Essentially, the Germans could retreat beyond the river furthest west right from the start. Then the game would be over when they blow the bridges. The VP locations have to at least double or reduce the VP levels to force the German player to fight for those VP locations for the Soviets to have nay chance at a victory. Chose the scenario as it just seemed attractive because of the unique set up.
