Designer Notes: This scenario describes the simultaneous Soviet attack on the Psel River and the German counterattack on Akhtyrka.

Scenario Briefing: German command planned a counterattack from Akhtyrka against the overstretched Soviet units of the 27th Army and 6th Guards Army. Simultaneously, the Soviet high command planned a large attack at the front of the PzAOK.4 similar to the one carried out only days before. This time the Soviets reinforced the attack with the 47th Army of General Kozlov, which was interspersed between the 38th and 40th Armies. The objective of these three Soviet armies was to reach the Psel River and capture the city of Lebedin. In addition, as they knew the Germans were gathering a strong fighting group around Akhtyrka, their offensive was to wheel south and create an encirclement. PzAOK.4 formed the XXIV.PzK at Akhtyrka using the 7th Panzer, 10th Panzergrenadier and Grossdeutschland Divisions. The XXIV.PzK would attack to the southwest while the III.PzK, which had been attacking the Merla river for several days, would attack to the northwest with SS Divisions Totenkopf and Das Reich. The objective was to destroy the Soviet units between the pincers of the two German formations and to buy time to stop the rupture between PzAOK.4 and AOK.8.

Interesting scenario. The Germans are strong in the south but weak in the north and must both attack and defend.
