Designer Notes: This scenario describes the fight for the city of Kharkov.

Scenario Briefing: The approaches to Kharkov were protected by the tired divisions of Armee-Abteilung Kempf. To the north it was defended by XI.AK of General Raus who had six divisions, although three had suffered severe losses in their retreat from the north. The 167th, 168th and 198th Divisions had been reduced to Kampfgruppen, about the size of a regiment. Raus retained a single panzer division. The defense east of Kharkov was entrusted to the XXXXII.AK with four divisions, one of which was a weak panzer division. Kharkov had two rings of defenses anchored on strongpoints. The outer ring was fifteen kilometers from the city and the inner ring was built around the outlying neighborhoods and industrial areas. All strongholds had clear firing lines, fences and mined areas. In addition, the entire area around Kharkov was dotted with extensive wooded areas that were difficult to maneuver through. For the assault, Konev's Steppe Front employed three armies and the assistance of another from the Southwest Front, although the loss of the 5th Guards Tank Army sent to cover the counterattack of the SS units of III.PzK at Bogodukhov had condemned the Steppe Front to a slow and costly battle.
