Designer Notes: For the operation to cross the Severnyy Donets, Stavka assigned the 57th Army as part of the Steppe Front, then returned the operational command of this unit to the Southwestern Front. For reasons of scenario design and limitations in Corps Attachment, the 57th Army has been left as part of the Southwestern Front.

Scenario Briefing: As the armies of the Voronezh Front advanced towards Kharkov after the capture of Belgorod, Gagen's 57th Army was ordered to cross the Severnyy Donets east and south of Kharkov to support the future push towards the important industrial cities of the Donbas after Operation Rumyantsev. This was not an easy task as the XXXXII.AK had heavily fortified the west bank of the river and its infantry divisions, in excellent condition as they had not been involved in the fighting at Zitadelle, were preparing for their defense.
