Scenario Briefing: The sector of Tomarovka-Borisovka-Belgorod, defended by the LII.AK of PzAOK.4 and the XI.AK of Armee-Abteilung Kempf, received the bulk of the attack of the Voronezh Front, supported by the 53rd and 69th Armies of the Steppe Front. The 5th and the 6th Guards Armies would attack the front of LII.AK and create the breakthrough. After them were to follow two armored armies in reserve, the 1st Tank Army and the 5th Guards Tank Army, reconstituted after the battles of three weeks before. LII.AK had several panzer divisions in reserve a few miles from the front, the 19th and 6th. The infantry divisions were entrenched a few miles north of their original Zitadelle positions. In addition, the city of Belgorod had been fortified to make it a base of resistance. The main attack would be supported by the 7th Guards Army which was to cross the Severnyy Donets east of Belgorod and attempt to take the city with a direct attack.
