Dover, Sept 24 1940: The Germans were well aware of the significance of the port of Dover, as were the British. Not only would it afford them a port for their follow up troops to disembark, but the impact on the morale of all Britons would be tremendous with its loss. The close proximity of 2 Landing Zones, B and C, also afforded a really opportunity to acquire a good route to London through Ashford. The elite of the German 16th Army was entrusted this vital task.
