Scenario Briefing: Despite energetic efforts, the French were unable to salvage the situation on the Meuse and re-establish a continuous front between the 2nd and 1st Armies - the breach was too great, reserves too distant and the panzers too fast. Between May 16th and 18th, scattered elements of the 9th Army were defeated in chaotic fighting at the border, the Oise and the Sambre. Deeply invested in Belgium, the BEF and French 1st Army were threatened with encirclement and annihilation. In a desperate move to buy time, Gort deployed the 12th and 23rd Infantry Divisions between the Scarpe and the Somme. The 23rd Division was to form a line on the Canal du Nord while the 12th Division, together with French regional troops, was ordered to establish roadblocks at Péronne, Albert, Amiens, Doullens and Abbeville. The 23rd Infantry Division was largely destroyed on May 19th as the panzers blew past the unfilled Canal du Nord and captured Péronne.

By the morning of the 19th, the lead elements of 1st, 2nd and 6th Panzer Divisions were poised to dash to the sea and complete the isolation of the northern armies. Only the 12th Division's roadblocks stood in their path. Mostly untrained and without anti-tank weapons or artillery, the British Territorials could not hope to stop the Panzers, but their sacrifice would buy the Alllies precious time as the northern armies fell back on the channel ports.

Recommended Rules: (Default)
Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Optional Surrender, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.

(The Delayed Disruption Reporting rule will provide a more challenging experience for the attacking player. Playing without the Limited Air Recon rule will provide a more realistic depiction of cooperation between German aerial reconnaissance and bomber forces, but may overstate Allied capabilities.)
