Scenario Briefing: In response to the threat developing on the Meuse River, on May 13th, General Gamelin released Jean de Lattre de Tassigny's 14th Infantry Division from the General Reserve. Travelling from Lunéville to Reims by rail, the 14th Infantry was placed at the disposition of General Corap's 9th Army. The next day, Corap ordered the division to east to defend the Ardennes Canal alongside the 53rd Infantry and 5th Light Cavalry Divisions. The French infantry weren't fast enough - only one of De Lattre's battalions arrived in the sector before the panzers had swept to the west. Unable to fulfill its mission, the 14th Infantry Division instead established itself on the Aisne River around Rethel. Largely undisturbed the German motorized columns headed northwest, De Lattres men dug in and established a small bridgehead north of Rethel. Lagging behind the panzers and motorized troops, the German 23rd Infantry Division arrived near Rethel late on May 16th. After a probing action on the 17th, the Germans prepared to assault Rethel on the afternoon of the 19th. Splendidly trained and fully-equipped, De Lattre's division was one of the best in the French Army and was capable of a tenacious defense. The German attack on the 19th would be the first in a series of hard-fought battles near Rethel that would last well into June.

Recommended Rules: (Default)
Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Optional Surrender, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.

(The Delayed Disruption Reporting rule will provide a more challenging experience for the attacking player. Playing without the Limited Air Recon rule will provide a more realistic depiction of cooperation between German aerial reconnaissance and bomber forces, but may overstate Allied capabilities.)
