Fall Gelb, 10 May 1940: Paul Reynaud addressed the French people: "Three free nations - Holland,
Belgium, and Luxembourg - were invaded last night by the German army. They have called the
Allied armies to their assistance. Between seven and eight o'clock in the morning our soldiers, the
soldiers of freedom, crossed the frontier. The age-old battlefield of the Flanders plain is well-known
to the people of our country. And confronting us, rushing at us, is the age-old invader. Free men and
women the world over will be breathlessly watching the drama ahead. France stands calm and
strong. It is time to fall in. You already know that all parties have joined forces within the
government. In this hour in which the best, the youngest, the liveliest, the strongest of our
countrymen are about to risk their lives in solemn battle, one grave thought dwells in every house,
every country cottage, every billet. One common thought raises us all above ourselves. Everyone is
preparing to do his duty. The French army had drawn its sword: France is gathering herself."
Despite his words of strength, Reynaud was nervous. he confided privately to one of his ministers,
"Now we shall see what Gamelin is made of." [Size: It's really big!] Design Note: This very long
version of the campaign runs through June 4th. It uses manual bridge destruction. Objective hexes
have been placed to provide the Germans with multiple paths to a major victory. It is recommended
that it be played with the Programmed Weather optional rule. Please read attached design notes for
information regarding objective hexes, victory conditions, wired bridges, the Dunkerque
evacuations, and suggested strategies.

As played in the two games I have played the Germans have the advantage. Restrictions allied movement places significant part in that of course that’s my opinion. As time passes as with many other games I think an allied strategy Will develop and give the German so much harder time.

As the German I did poorly due to A very competent opponent, my very poor strategy and not a complete grasp of the rules and functions of the game.
That said I really did enjoy it though.
Learned quite a bit from my opponent that I hope will carry over into the new version.

The only way to play this game as the french is with "Alt" artillery rules. Without it, the French have absolutely ZERO firepower. Against a good attacking player who knows how to organize Army-level attacks the French have no chance without Alt artillery.

I made the ratings middling because we DID NOT use programmed weather, hoping for some variation but what we got was a grounded Luftwaffe and 1km vis for three straight days, stopping the game at turn 112. Never play this one without using programmed weather.
