The Historical Campaign Game. Operation Market-Garden was a bold plan that envisioned an "airborne carpet" of troops holding open a corridor for the British 30th Corps to advance on, until it crossed the Rhine at Arnhem. Unfortunately, the II SS Panzer Korps was resting and preparing to refit in the area, and the operation failed with extremely heavy casualties to mainly the British 1st Airborne Division. Of note in this battle is the amazing speed and coordination of the German response, a testament to the organizational skills and decisive leadership of General Model. This scenario was altered to allow more historical results and the chance for the allies to win even if the British 1st Airborne Division is eliminated as long as they manage to take and hold Arnhem.

Mr Grumpy
We finished around turn 60, my opponent had lost control of the Waal bridges early on and was unable to stop the XXX Corps pushing on to Arnhem.

In some respects an excellent representation of the difficulties of the campaign, in other respects flawed. Absent board edge sleaze, the the Allies must seize the victory location in Arnhem to pull off a victory. The German reinforcements can be easily trapped against the board edge by aggressive use of the 82nd and 101st.

Nijmegen Bridges are the key to Success in this one. If the germans can control these bridges they can atleast get a draw.

the 5000 points objectif is the real game objective. With allies, you got a single occasion to take it at the very beginning and when seized....it's really harsh for the germant to take it back

I enjoyed this scenario immensely, even though I had some bad luck. There are a lot of variables, and I think it could easily go either way.

German can get lots of firepower and engineers into Arnheim, dig trenches and make the place impregnable. There is no way they can take it with 1st Airborne.
