Gelnhausen, West Germany, June 10th 1985: Geography shapes many battlefields and the campaign to capture West Germany is no exception. Central Germany is divided by a series of very significant and difficult wooded ridgelines with few East-West roads or clear access through them. One of these gaps - the Fulda Gap, is a high-speed access route between the cities of Fulda and Gelnhausen. Once through this gap the attacker has a clear path to the city of Frankfurt, the main objective of the Warsaw Pact. With control of this gap in mind, the 79th Guards Air Assault Division has been tasked with securing the Western end of the gap at Gelnhausen. The attack must be swift and decisive because NATO will counter attack in an attempt to dislodge any foothold obtained by the Warsaw Pact. [Size: small] Designer’s notes: Best played as Warsaw Pact or Human vs. Human. Explicit Supply is possible.

Quite straightforward for both sides, not much operational finesse is expected.

This scenario is not balanced for PBEM play. The current Victory Point structure does not provide the Soviet player with a reasonable chance of victory.

However, this scenario is very entertaining. As NATO, this is a very tense scenario as you brace for the inevitable Soviet onslaught and subsequently do your best to survive.

If the Victory Point structure were modified to represent a major reduction in NATO forces as a Soviet Minor Victory and capture of Gelnhausen as a Soviet Major Victory, it would provide the Soviet Player with a reasonable chance of victory.

Quite tough from the Warsaw Pact perspective. Although we managed to capture and retain the supply source for NATO from relatively early in the game, we were unable to dislodge NATO from Gelnhausen (250pts). The arrival of NATO reinforcements midway along the WP supply line deprived us of desperately needed reinforcements, and the battles devolved into two entirely separate engagements with the reinforcements of both sides engaging each other and the original attackers and defenders continuing their engagement alone. Some brutal fighting ensued with the besieged NATO forces out of supply and the Soviet forces seriously depleted from the earlier fighting.
Ultimately WP were unsuccessful.

Victory points for this game might benefit from a tweak to favour the WP, otherwise a very entertaining scenario.
