Well, the drive to the Canal just to see if that's possible was a tempting operational challenge. But the question here is whether the Egyptians have the slightest chance to prevent the IDF from breaking through? At some point they just go into a complete disarray, repeating the historical patch and producing exactly the same outcome. So the result is well know even before you start the war.
