Espinosa 11 November 1808 - Held at bay during the previous afternoon's tough fighting, Victor realized that the Spanish army would have to be defeated by superior tactics, rather than clumsy piecemeal assaults. While the Spaniards expected to be attacked on the same ground as the previous day, the French Marshal decided to send Lapisse's division against the extreme Spanish left flank. The position was strong, but the Asturian defenders were inexperienced.
