Castalla 21 July 1812 - The Spanish general O'Donnell laid an over-ambitious plan to encircle the French troops in Castalla and Ibi and eliminate them before Harispe could arrive with reinforcements. However, a night march would fatigue the Spanish troops and it would prove difficult to coordinate the three-pronged attack.
