16 October 1813 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - Important: Uses 15 Minute Turns - The first day of the Battle of Leipzig saw Napoleon's best chance of defeating the Allies. With Ney commanding in the north and Murat in the south, Napoleon was free to allocate reinforcements as he saw fit. Instead he left this key responsibility to his subordinates. Ney sent an entire corps to handle the situation at Lindenau when they might have been put to better use against Blücher or the Allies to the south. Thus one of history's greatest battles may have hinged on the decision to send these forces to an area that was a sideshow when the defeat of one of the Allied armies may have brought about the victory that Napoleon desired. The blame is Napoleon's for placing Murat and Ney in a capacity that probably was far over their ability. See the other full day battle scenarios of Möckern, Lindenau and Wachau for a more detailed description of the action. Note: St. Priest's 8th Corps was ordered to march north to guard the Alllied left flank and only part of it was able to arrive when summoned to the battlefield but it was too late to make an impact. As a result the corps does not arrive in this scenario. See 076. Operational Leipzig if you want to explore the various options that the Allies had with regards to this formation.

The strategy for the French is to retreat in the north and block the crossings. This releases several corps to fight in the south whereas for the allies a whole army becomes redundant. The French then throw everything south.

Game is 44 turns. 90% of French reinforcements did not make it to the battlefield. Very little happened until the last 20 turns as I took a defensive posture. That may have been a mistake since I lost.
