Action at Casa de Salinas 27 July 1809. Having covered the withdrawal of the allied army to the Talavera position, a British rearguard composed of the 3rd Division and Anson's Brigade of light cavalry remained around the ruined house at Casa de Salinas, from which Sir Arthur Wellesley was observing the French advance. Having crossed the Alberche upstream and approached the British position unobserved, GD Lapisse prepared to attack even though his whole force was not yet up. Some British battalions begin the scenario disordered and/or fixed to reflect the degree to which they were taken by surprise.
