Ciudad Rodrigo: The Siege of 1810 - This scenario starts during the night of 21-22 June, just before Julian Sanchez' 200 lancers broke through the French besieging lines and made their way to Craufurd's camp. The Spanish garrison under Herrasti was 5,500 strong, but although only the Majorca battalion had seen action before the garrison would put up a fine defence against Ney's 30,000 strong army. Wellington felt unable to risk a general action to relieve Ciudad Rodrigo since, although he could match Ney in numbers, only 18,000 of his men were British and the remaining 15,000 untried Portuguese. Moreover, his artillery was inferior and he could only muster 3,000 cavalry to the French 5,000. Also he would need to surprise Ney and achieve a decisive victory, since he estimated that an additional French force of 17,000 under Junot could march to Ney's assistance within 48 hours.
