The Combat of Alcolea 7th June 1808 - Lt. Colonel Don Pedro de Echavarri, in charge of the defence of Cordoba, decided to make a stand against the advancing French at the bridge of Alcolea, with a force of 1,400 Spanish regulars and 8 antique guns, supported by some militia units and thousands of armed civilians. However, he made the mistake of deploying troops on both sides of the river. The French, under Dupont, softened up the defenders across the bridge before launching an assault. The weak Spanish flanking force - composed of cavalry and untrained citizens - deployed on the French side of the river then attacked, but was swiftly dealt with and scattered by the French cavalry supported by the marines. NB: This scenario is best played as the French side against the A/I or against a human opponent.
