La Bassee-Armentieres, France, 20th October 1914: The first phase of the attack by the German 6.Armee in the La Bassee and Armentieres area intended to break through the Allied line and undermine their positions from Ypres to the English Channel. The Germans intended to use the 26.Infanterie-Division as "shock troops" of sorts for the attack: to have them probe for a weakness in the Allied line and move on to either Armentieres or Neuve Chappelle. The fighting that occurred was a slow and methodical one of attrition that would foreshadow the hellish struggle that would characterize the years to come. The exhausted British and French troops were about to receive a taste of hell. [Size: medium] *See the notes document for information on scenario design decisions and historical notes.

At some point the Germans managed to push it to a draw level and a salient reached just two hexes from Armentićres. All in all, I had very good time banging the OHL heads against the Entente walls. It does feel like WWI with the trench warfare period slowly stabilizing.
