Mons, Belgium, 23rd August 1914: With the outbreak of war in 1914, the Germans advanced through Belgium almost completely unopposed by any real threat. Von Kluck's 1.Armee quickly approached a small Belgian town of Mons which was a place that had seen the passage of British armies of bygone days, many town names in the area having long been etched upon British regimental colors. The BEF had only just arrived in the area after a long march to setup up hasty defense positions along von Kluck's path, with orders to hold the flank of the allied armies. The clash that followed was to become Britiain's first major battle of the Great War, and a shock to the Imperial German Army. The German high command was convinced that their massive army would sweep the tiny BEF into the sea in a matter of weeks but at Mons the "contemptible little army" made their stand and quickly dispelled those illusions. Very nice and enjoyable scenario, at least from the Allies view :-)
Mr Grumpy
Might need a tweak to help the CP side, we will change sides and replay to find out?
Mr Grumpy
Despite my win, i suggest a balance tweak is needed for the CP player.

Hard for the Germans. Withdrawls of Allied forces balances it somewhat.

Some odd design choices in this one.

The scenario is more history lesson than good competition. Unit removals and fixed units galore, combined with an extremely short time table for the German make for a battle where you feel more spectator than commander. I listed it as slightly Pro Allied simply because the Germans managed to steal one VP spot with a lucky Artillery roll, otherwise it was a German Minor Loss.

A bit frustrating to play with fixed and withdrawing units but it ended in a draw, so balancing was good.
