Double Eagle was one of the largest amphibious landing of the VN conflict. It involved 3 Marine LBT and the 4th ARVN Infantry division. The US objective was for the marines to land at Red Beach and secure the area north and west of Da Nang while the ARVN attack from the south and secure Hill 163 along with meeting up with the US in Da Nang. They ran into bitter opposition from the 95th NVA Infantry Regiment. This is the alternate landing that never happen on beaches 30 miles north of Da Nang where an easier landing was expected but the 95th NVA IR was dug in deeper than we knew.
