Con Tien was a U.S. Marine Combat Base used to conduct agressive patrols in the DMZ area to find and kill as many NVA as possible. The Combat Base was asaulted on 8 May, 1967, on July 2, 1967, and again on July 4th & 5th, 1967 with heavy losses to both sides, but the Marines held. July 6th, 1967 would yield yet another major NVA attack with the last major offensive to follow on July 8th, 1967. The attack on the 6th was foiled by three Marines surprising a 400 man NVA force moving in column and catching them in a bitter crossfire. On the 8th a recon patrol of F & G companies ran head-on into an NVA battalion sized unit. The Marines wisely retreated and allowed artillery and air support to strike. When the smoke finally cleared on July 14th, the body count was 1290 NVA KIA and 159 Marine KIA along with 345 Marine WIA.

All of the Operation Buffalo scenarios are tense and exciting. Lots of Grunts and Armor for both sides, NVA Rocket artillery, US Naval artillery and airstrikes. Con Tien Combat Base was hell-on-earth for both the NVA and the U.S. Marines and it's reflected extreamly well in in this and the other Buffalo scenarios. Jorge Grillo makes some mighty fine scenarios and this one is no exception.
