Diverted from a hwy clearing mission 1/26th was sent in to assist the 4th Cav who ran into an anbush from the VC Phu Loi Battalion. In the fierce hours that followed 1/16th ID, 1/2nd ID, adn further 4th Cav units were called in to assist. Helicopters quickly responded picking dead and wounded while dropping in the 2/29th to cut the enemy off to the north. Meanwhile the enemy was shored up with units form a VC MF regiment in the area. 2 days later with the help of major air strikes and 155mm Arty support from the 1/5th, 171 VC were kill and the Phu Loi Bn was all but elliminated.
