Interesting problem and objectives for the Germans.

At the end, the infantry on both sides were punch-drunk, swinging wildly – both sides were largely broken and brittle. This is the only time I can recall that infantry would break and run at the mere sound of enemy gunfire (granted the MG42 makes a pretty fearsome noise).
I think this scenario was reasonably balanced, my luck in being able to take out the enemy panzers while only losing 1 tank was, in my opinion, the reason that I was able to hold on and then push the enemy back a bit. My opponent indicated that his panzers would not ‘sight’ my tanks, which allowed the US tanks to get in the first (often crucial) shot.
The game is bigger and longer than I expected, but the map is very interesting. I think the US forces did ok against the initial German infantry assault – giving (more) and taking losses, but when the German panzers showed up, they really started pulverizing the infantry. With a strong push, the Germans were advancing into the main town and it was only the arrival of Custer’s tanks and infantry, which allowed me to stem the flow and begin to push the enemy back. I definitely think there were five unanswered kills against the German panzer’s that would normally be much more evenly dished out – I had four tanks available to provide fire support to my ‘brittle’ troops advancing against many enemy automatic small arms, which made a huge difference. The arrival toward the end of two Jagdtigers was a shock, but in the event, they never even fired a shot – very strange, again my opponent said they could not spot my tanks.
All in all a very challenging and interesting scenario – I know my opponent had a good deal of difficulty with the low quality of his troops, but they did not appear so green to my men getting shot.
