Benghazi was to hold the record for the most bombed city in North Africa in WWII. It changed hands numerous times and each time recieved more and more damage. As the ebb and flow of the North African campaign drew across Cyrenaica, so did the fate of the besiged city of Benghazi go from bad to worse.
