Cassino Railway Station - Combat Mission: Afrika Korps

Just south of the town, and in the shadow of Monte Cassino, Cassino Railway Station and adjacent switching yards were captured by the Maori Battalion after a fierce battle on the night of 17 February 1944. Tired and thinly spread, the New Zealanders are still confident and determined to hold the objectives taken the night before. A heavy barrage ordered by divisional commanders (here suggested by fog) has provided the men of 28 Battalion much needed concealment...but has also allowed German grenadiers to approach their positions undetected.
