[Song Be, Vietnam]: [SIDE A / H2H] [HIS] [CSL]:

In mid-April, 1965, the U.S. Special Force B-34 Detachment arrived in Phouc Binh (also known as Song Be), the capital of Phuoc Long province, joining local ARVN and a MACV team to help bolster the area defenses. The team started to build a fortified area on a local hill, near the provincial chiefs home.

As a show of force during the wet season, four battalions of the 761st and 763rd VC Regiments conducted an assault on the city and surrounding area one month later. A mortar barrage signaled the start of the attack, followed by a multi-directional assault.

Helicopter gunships arrived on scene for support while the ARVN 36th Infantry Battalion and 34th Ranger Battalion were racing up to recapture the capital.

Once the VC overrun the RF forces that begin isolated the scenario ran into issues as a full battalion of VC never became unfixed and likewise the ARVN forces never received the reinforcements they were due which pretty much doomed them to sit in the SF base.

Apparently this is being addressed in the upcoming patch next week.
