September 19, 1863 12 Turns --------------------[ Historical ]--------------------- 11:20am: While Liddell's and Baird's men were fighting for posession of the battlefield around the Winfrey field, reinforcements for each side were being ordered into battle in a piecemeal fashion. The Federal divisions of Richard Johnson and John Palmer were sent into action as soon as they finished their march up the Lafayette Road. Meanwhile Bragg stuck to his plan of turning the Federal left by sending Ben Cheatham's oversized division north through the woods to relieve Liddell. --------------------------------------------------------------- Colonel Allen Buckner of the 79th Illinois to his men: "We shall soon be in it and many of us will fall but I hope all will stay in their place and do their duty. ...Boys, if there is anything to settle with your God you better attend to that at once."
