August 28, 1862 7 Turns ------------------[ Historical ]----------------- 6:00pm: After destroying several locomotives at Bristoe Station and merrily ransacking the Union supply depot at Manassas Junction, Jackson and his detached corps headed north toward the old Bull Run battlefield. Meanwhile John Pope, the Union commander, received false information that Jackson's men marched toward Centreville. Hoping to "bag" an isolated Jackson before he can escape, Pope orders his dispersed army to converge on Centreville. Simularly, "Stonewall" Jackson is hoping to engage some or all of John Pope's dispersed Federal army in a decisive battle before McClellan's sizable command, enroute from the Virginia penninsula, arrives in full. A fine opportunity is finally presented to Jackson shortly before dusk when King's division comes marching down the Warrenton Turnpike headed toward Centreville, totally unaware of the Rebels lurking on the wooded ridge to their left. Several shots from a Confederate battery quickly disorders the unsuspecting Federal column, throwing several regiments of Patrick's inexperienced brigade into disarray. To further compound the Yankee's problems, Rufus King, the division commander, cannot be found by any of his brigade commanders; unknown to them, he has been incapacitated by an epileptic seizure. The Second Battle of Bull Run is about to begin!
