August 28, 1862 12 Turns -------------------[ What If ]--------------------- 6:00pm: Historically, despite his advantage of surprise, Stonewall Jackson was slow to organize a concerted attack on King's column of Federals as they made their way toward Centreville along the Warrenton Turnpike. When the Confederates did attack, it was only with Baylor's lone brigade. What if Jackson had pressed his advantage in numbers early? Conversely, the Federals were also slow to react, partly due to the absence of Rufus King, the divisional commander, who had been incapacitated by an epileptic seizure, thus removing him as a factor. What if King had been present to guide his division? Additionally, what if Sigel's I Corps, posted near Henry House Hill about two miles to the east, had come to King's aid when the firing began?
