Sept. 7, 1812 52 Turns -----------------------[ What If ]----------------------- Kutuzov, seeing that Napoléon has isolated a third of the French army on the northern side of the Kolocha, has decided to go on the offensive. Moreover, he has redeployed Osterman-Tolstoi's IV Corps and Baron Barclay de Tolly's II Corps south of Utitza. Other formations, notably Lavrov's V Corps of Guards, have moved up into support positions. And, in a daring feat, Lieutenant-General Wittgenstein's I Corps has successfully eluded the two French corps chasing it and is expected to arrive before noon. It is hoped that a coordinated, preemptive strike will roll up the French right flank before Napoléon's anticipated attack begins. If it succeeds, the Russian army might trap the bulk of Napoléon's forces against the south bank of the Kolocha. But unknown to the Russians, Napoléon has agreed to Davout's flanking plan and has called up his troops deployed at Smolensk. Will Wittgenstein arrive in time to turn the French flank?
