The US goal is to exit men from the city by getting them to an exit zone. The Russian goal is the stop/impede the US exit and to inflict casualties.
The scoring system does not seem to be right. If the US exits all of their men, I think that they get 0 points (I am not certain about this as I have never designed a scenario). I assume that soldiers not exited are counted as casualties.
If the Russian kills any US forces, they get points....so it is very difficult for the US side to win, unless they stand and fight and inflict casualties on the Russians......but if they do that, they are not maximizing the exit of men.
In our battle, I was US and left a few covering forces in place to slow the Russian pursuit of my men and had everyone else hightail it to the exit zone. With the proper use of engineers blowing holes along the way, all went well, but my covering forces of course sacrificed themselves for the greater good. A few others were lost on the way, but by far, most exited. There were some Russian casualties too, but not as high a percentage of overall forces as with the US.
Because the US exit had gone so well, I was surprised by the battle stats at the end that awarded the victory to the Russians.
I thought my primary goal was to exit my men. My recommendation to the US side now though would be to do more fighting against the Russians in order to inflict more casualties. :)
