Specifically the HOT WAR mod?

Quote: Hot War: 1945 v1.01

"Hot War: 1945" is a mod for West Front that allows players to fight USSR vs. US, UK and Allied (West) Germany!!! It is a separate install of WF and requires EF II also. Version 1.01 works with all WF v1.05 packages (including WF, WF Elite, EIF and WIF). It does require the Battle Pack CD's (or the later bundles like WF Elite, etc) to run certain scenarios.

It comes with ELEVEN scenarios covering the initial Soviet assault on the West and their subsequent exploitation of their breakthrough, the desperate German/American defense of Bastogne, the bloody Soviet airdrop on Arnhem, the Anglo-French defense of Iran and, of course, the American invasion of Northern Germany.

It now includes all the USMC and other new units from Rising Sun!!!

Several pesky bugs have been fixed and I think (hope?) it is now COMPLETELY bug free.

It now works with WF v1.05 and thus all later bundles.

The artwork has been updated as appropriate.

New scenarios are available on the HW Scenarios Page of the Designers Guild Section. More scenarios will follow.

Note to previous users of HW: Even if you have already installed Hot War: 1945 v1.00, I'm afraid you will have to completely re-install HW v1.01 from scratch. However with many new and updated scenarios, with WF v1.05, with much new art work (and a few key bug fixes [sigh]), I can assure you it WILL be worth the effort.

[Install Suggestion: Create a "Hot War" directory on your computer. Unzip the 'Hot War.zip' file into that directory. Read and print the 'read me' file from that directory. Install HW by following the directions in the 'read me' file.]

HW 'Briefing Sheets'

[not yet updated to v1.01]

This zipfile contains 'briefing sheets' (one for each side) for every HW scenario! A briefing sheet consists of one page of 'conditions' (eg scenario description, visibility, supply level, scenario length, etc), one section of the friendly OOB (only units actually appearing in the scenario, not the entire *.org file), one section of friendly forces and capabilities (eg which and how many of each platoon type, basic combat data for those platoons, etc) and one section on possible enemy forces and capabilities (ie roughly the same as the previous section except that it contains only platoons available in that time period to the enemy countries in question). It uses full FOW so reading the 'briefing' for the side you are playing will not give away any secrets! It is in the simplest *.doc format and should be readable by any word/wordpad version (or rename it as *.txt but lose the page breaks).

(Note: These files are free standing so they can be unzipped anywhere. I'd suggest making a subdirectory under WF called "Briefings".)

Hot War Scenario Chart

[not yet updated to v1.01]

This is an MS 'Excel 5.0/95' file of all the HW scenarios w/ relevant info. Very useful for picking scenarios w/o having to page through the HW screens. It is also is the file that provided the raw data for the Scenario Rating System. The update also includes a Word 6.0 document file with all the scen descriptions.

HW Database!

This is Hot War's unit and weapons data in an MS 'Excel 2000' spreadsheet.

Hot War Unit Display

(Not yet available)

This is an MS 'Access 97' database of Hot War. It draws on all the information available in the new spreadsheet (above) but actually allows the user to filter by date, country, side and unit class. It also shows both the 3D unit picture and the photograph (where available). A must have!

(Notes: This file can be loaded in any directory, it works best if the WF cd is in the cd rom drive - to show the photographs - and if it can't find any unit data it is likely that your registry points to the wrong directory).

Hi, guys!

It seems my download og the Cold War Mod is missing a .bit file. The SP08512.bit file to be precise.

I noticed this during the first scenario of the French Foreign Legion Campaign after I had targeted the enemy for two air strikes. After the A/I had had it's turn and I innitiated my next turn the two air strikes started. However then I get an error message dialog telling me said SP08512.bit file is missing. And once I click the OK button on the dialog in question the game crashes to desktop.

Anyone else who has had this problem?

Anyone knows were to get hold of this missing file?

Hi
I have designed a small hypothetical scenario for the JTCS Cold War mod set in Southern West Germany in November 1973.

This features a dawn attack by a reinforced Soviet Motor Rifle Regiment on a village crossroads defended by a squadron of the US 11th Cavalry regiment. Both sides have helicopters, OH58’s and AH-1G’s for the Americans and Mi24-A’s for the Soviets. For both sides these also start on map.

However when I test the scenario neither sides helicopters are able to move and I get the message “There is no direct path to the specified hex” or “Units cannot move through existing terrain” at the bottom of the screen when I try to move them into adjacent hexes .

Is there a way round this and or how should helicopters be deployed in order to get them to move once the game has started ?
Kind regards

I do have permission from Julius to convert these scenarios. I will keep everyone updated on my progress.

Folks,

I was wondering if it would be possible to populate the CW-Europe Scenario Data Base with the existing scenarios that come with the install of this mod. Right now there are 3 scenarios listed, all designs after the fact.

Having said that, is there an easier way to populate globally rather than a one for one exchange?

I'm thinking probably not because in the mechanics of adding scenarios to the DB there has to be a minimum of 3 entities to each zip file (map, org and scn files). So the population would be time consuming at best.
The information contained in Cold War Europe anti-tank guided missiles are as LW ( missiles ) , PAL or PALR ( anti-tank guided missile ) called. There is almost exclusively that of the first and second generation, the first rocket of the third generation came in the late eighties in circulation.
These semi -active guidance systems ( SACLOS = Semi-Automatic Command to Line of Sight) only had the objectives to be kept in sight during the missile during flight its trajectory corrected automatically. Most systems were still controlled by wire, some more modern like the Hellfire AGM on lasers were the current impact areas already partly below 100 meters.

(Since the shooter was not as strong demand and the ever- reliable weapons systems had a higher first hit fall far from the values at long distances from barely.)
This unit is used for rough comparison of military vehicle armor and the penetrating power of bullets. RHA is based on the armored vehicles of the Second World War, their armor still consisted of rolled or cast steel and could easily be stated in mm.

The ever-progressing development of shaped-charge or sabot bullets showed the vulnerability of the tanks, as these missiles the previous armor easily pierced. Great experience has been gained from the Arab-Israeli wars and ushered in a new development.

The first tank to be equipped with a novel composite armor was the Soviet T-64. He was in his introduction the most protected tanks in the world.
Modern armor consist among other things of various alloys, ceramics or armor in bulkhead construction. Another possibility is the reactive armor (ERA ) represents here are small tiles or placed on the main armor. Reactive targets are mainly found in Soviet types. Partly as different systems were combined.

All of these are given in armor RHA to obtain generally comparable values. The RHA amount then but not the actual thickness!
Missiles of the second generation were for example the Milan, HOT, TOW, Vigilant, AT-4, AT-5, AT-6 or Dragon.

The third generation is known as fire-and -forget missile systems such as the AGM Hellfire II or the AT -14. These passive steering systems to pursue their goals with their sensors either optical, laser or radar , a line of sight of the shooter to the target is no longer required.

RHA
RHA (English: rolled homogeneous armor = rolled homogeneous armor) denotes a theoretically assumed steel armor.

The actual RHA protection against modern battle tank shelling subject still largely secrecy, so the values of the newer types specially appreciated for various sources!

CW-Europe Folks,

I added a new scenario for your enjoyment to the CW-Europe Data Base. Its title is Rude Awakening and it pits the Soviets against US Forces in Europe circa 1990.

[SW of Maintz, Germany] [H2H] [HYPO] [GD] The Soviets 90th Guards Tank Division continues its drive south of Maintz with the objective of gaining the Rhein before the cold weather sets in. In the process they over run several US Infantry units trying to establish a blocking force but they are quickly brushed aside. In the meantime a fierce air battle transpires over Germany with neither side gaining the upper hand. Air losses are high on both sides as the struggle for control of the skies goes on for another bloody month. Fortunately for the Soviets, with the air superiority battle taking place, their ground units are able to run rough shode over the German plains that is until they run right into the US 2nd Armored Division-"Hell on Wheels" which is fully open for business!

Enjoy!

CW-Europe Gents,

A couple of observations in testing CW-Europe.

Setting: Customer Scenario of my own vintage-A Tough Fight 1980's decade playing against the A/I.

Mike: First off the English translation of the .exe files is spot on! Makes playing the mod a lot easier to understand. My German is not good. Thank you!

The A/I is doing something interesting with the medical units (Sanitaters) in that it uses them to block retreat routes! Something I had not even considered when we discussed medical units a while back. It also uses them to spot which is not a bad tactic considering my next comment.

Next and this outcome is kind of weird, When you direct fire at a medical unit with a combat unit like a tank platoon your fire cost in action points is at least doubled and in some cases the whole action point allotment is lost!!
Hmmm, not sure if that is a design intention but its somewhat annoying and unrealistic IMO. It kind of forces you not to shoot at them for fear of loosing OP fire action points in your defensive phase of the turn and being spotted. It changes the complexion of the game beyond the negative point value for the kill.

Thanks
