I've received an email from a member asking where he can download the K'talan Modification. It looks like the ones in the dropbox are dead links. Is this modification no longer being supported? If it is, can you please resupply a link to the mod(s).

Hey warhorse - I'm really enjoying your K'talan mod - it's refreshingly difficult and puts a whole new spin on the CS. Kinda reminds me of the movie "V"

I also like how all the scenarios are bundled into the main download file - just dl and play!

I wanted to point out a few things though that might make it a little better (here I go again, nit-picking).

In 2d mode, the K'talan units have that dark cammo on them (the icon itself) that makes it really hard to see what type of vehicle (or anything really), that the unit is. If the cammo for the 2d icons were lightened, they should be easily readable. The 3d icons look excellent though - no change needed there.

When pressing F2, I notice that units do not have a point value listed - is that intentional? Imagine my surprise when I lost 2 K'talan carriers for THIRTY POINTS each! It's just kinda hard to plan attacks when you can't gauge risk properly (because you don't know the value of your own units). Or is it listed somewhere but I'm just not seeing it?

I do like the little picture icon that replaces the terrain description in the F2 window - it's a little hard to make out the tiny pictures, but it is new and kinda modern-looking. :looks good:

Anyway, still learning the game and enjoying it. Thanks for all your work on this!

Hey folks, I have a doc attached somewhere here, but realised it needs to be a little more visible, so here it is!

The K'talan Mod;

Background:
This mod is based on Harry turtledoves Worldwar series from years ago, where an alien race has watched Earth via probes for thousands of years prior to an invasion to conquer Earth for colonization. The alien race however, experiences time differently than humans do, where they might advance very little in a thousand years, humans accelerate very quickly. The last feed the advancing armada of warships had viewed had showed a human race at about the level of the Viking era, an easy take-over. Similarities to Harry’s book abound, however my aliens are called K’talans instead of The Race, and are humanoid in stature as opposed to the lizard type being of Harry Turtledoves series. The vehicles in this mod are comparable to 21st century hardware we have now, with some obvious limitations due to game engine restrictions, such as no infrared, no NBC capability, and a few others. The K’talan M’dra MBT is a very tough customer, having the equivalent of Chobham-type armor construction, and main armament capable of also firing missile munitions. The only good point for the human armies is that the armada only has so many units to fight with, so loss of single vehicles in a unit can be catastrophic in a campaign, replacements for hardware being all but nil!!

Situation:
As the lead ship approaches out of The Jump, another probe is sent out for a refreshed recon flight, imagine their surprise to find the human race is now at 1942, embroiled in a world war, and possess armored vehicles and aircraft! Albeit very archaic in comparison to the K’talan armament it appears the humans will not be so easy to conquer as first thought. However, too much time has passed, and the colony ships are already in motion towards Earth the decision to go forward with the planned invasion is made. The first unit to deploy is dropped near Kharkov, Russia, on the day of May 16 1942, interrupting a battle in progress between two factions, the Germans and Russians. Only a battalion of mech infantry, some recon and a company of tanks and some support from the 803rd Mechanized Rifle Regiment are dropped as a recon in force towards a flank of the combatants to see what they will be up against. Other ships dropping out of The Jump are instructed to take up positions over the evident leading factions of Earth to begin dropping of units as soon as the verdict is in with this battle.

I made this mod as a personal only fun thing, but figured maybe folks might enjoy it also, so I released it a few years ago without any scenarios, as I am not that great at that preferring to mod the games overall!! There are six scenarios and two DCG's right now that need testing, more to follow. This mod is a self-contained game, goes in it's own directory. It is around 250mb in size, so if you have a restriction on download size/time, you may look into when the unlimited time is, for folks like some that have satellite internet.

Directions for installing follow;

Installing the K'talan Mod.

Download the file to a location of your choosing, so you can find the zip file. Open the zip, and choose to extract, extract the file into whatever drive you have your campaign Series in, mine is J:, but most are probably C:. The path is set to put it in ?:drive/Matrix Games/John Tillers Campaign Series/K'talan WF 1.1. Another way, is to just make an Unzip folder temporarily, and unzip it into there, then drop the K'talan WF1.1 folder into your Matrix/John Tiller's Campaign Series structure manually. That is all ther is to the initial install.

Installing sub-mods using JSGME.

There are three sub-mods included, these are;

1)Afrika Corps- a special campaign.oob for the Germans for the included Hell in the Desert DCG. Before you would play that Campaign, just find JSGME.exe in the K'talan directory, dbl click, then in the left pain, select Afrika Corps, enable using the button in the center, then close. You will also need to enable the K'talan Desert Camo mod at the same time to see their unique desert kit.

2)Alt Italian Europe Paint- For use in the scenario Kick 'em Out! Enable the same way as previously mentioned for the Afrika Corp. This adds a green paint scheme instead of the desert tan for Italians in Europe.

3)Ktalan Desert Camo- for use whenever you are using the K'talan in a desert scenario/campaign. Enable as instructed previously.

Usually it is good practice to disable each of these when not in use for a specific scenario/campaign, as graphic weirdness can happen. Disabling is done the same as before, only choosing "disable mod" from the selection after selecting the mod in the Right pane this time.

Hopefully this will reduce frustration folks were having with this mod, sorry I wasn't clear before!

This is where I will post all scenarios for this mod from now on.

1) Squeezeplay-The K'talan have been here for over 3 years, and still no closer
to subdueing this miserable place. Now, orders have been given
to the 6th Motorized Rifle Division to push through North across
the river, to link up with the rest of the 20th Tank Army. There
has been a lot of human encrypted radio chatter, but advance
scouts only saw a few scattered units. Encouraged by this, the
Division plunges forward to cross the river quickly, soon though
their elation is replaced by astonishment. The humans have again
surprised the superior race with units on all three sides of
the advance, this will be a long day. This unit was the hope
of the 20th Army, it is a fresh unit with vital replacements,
full TO&E, they can't afford to loss valuable hardware!! A massive
envelopement is put into motion, can the K'talan unit make it
to the 20th? As the United Earth Army, try to crush this fresh
division, before it can either head off-map North, or spread
out and gain a stable defense. As the K'talan, your mission is
to head North only if minimal casualties are envisioned, in the
case of a hardened battle, try to take ground while setting up
a defensive line. [Best played as Human]
 Squeezeplay.zip (Size: 142.66 KB / Downloads: 21)

2)Across the Albert-14 September, 1944
[Albert Canal, Haccourt area, Belgium] : [H2H/Human] [FIC] [BB]
: As the K'talan slowly creep across Europe, the Allied Human
Forces gather to block the aliens from attempting the crossing
of the Albert Canal, then to flow down through Belgium into the
Lower Countries. Elements of the 1st Army, 11th Tank division
attempt this assault, whilst hastily gathered forces of the British
30th Corps, and US 5th Corps group together, with 12th SS Panzer
Division attachments to push the aliens back. Best played as
Human side.

3)Kick 'em out!-24 September, 1944
[Gerbini, Sicily, Italy]: [H2H/Human]:[FIC]:[BB]: The K'talan are having an extremely
hard time with subdueing the mediterranean area of Earth, as
well as most of the rest of this miserable planet. Orders from
the Emporer dictate the taking of an island country/state of
Sicily, for use as an isolated base where maybe some factories
can be set up to try and facilitate replacement of horrendous
losses in hardware. Sure, not so easy, as usual, instead of committing
an entire unit to an action, they are dropped in piecemeal! This
time again, only elements of a division are dropped into an isolated
area, luck of the draw goes to the 241st Mechanised Rifle Regiment.
The First Battalion, Reinforced works its way up the approaches
to a town called Gerbini, where they will bivuac for the night.
A newly formed Italian Armored infantry division has found us
this time, those Germans have boosted the Italian fighting capability
by introducing some of their machines into the Italian ranks.
Well, here it goes again, as our esteemed Divisional Commander
loves to rant, let's kick 'em out! [Requires Alt Italian Mod
and camo]

4)First Contact-This is actually the first scenario in the whole series, as it were. May 16, 1942, as the Germans struggle to blunt the Soviets at Kharkov, the aliens send in their first attack into the German rear at Veseloye. The surprised Soviets join in the fray with their former enemy to try and repel the threat. I made this scenario in the former EF version of the mod, before I standardized and remade just the WF version, due to disinterest in the series. Best played again as the Human.

5)Thorn in the side-This is a revamped version of the original scenario that came with the download. Much more playable as either side.

full TO&E, they can't afford to loss valuable hardware!! A massive
envelopement is put into motion, can the K'talan unit make it
to the 20th? As the United Earth Army, try to crush this fresh
division, before it can either head off-map North, or spread
out and gain a stable defense. As the K'talan, your mission is
to head North only if minimal casualties are envisioned, in the
case of a hardened battle, try to take ground while setting up
a defensive line. [Best played as Human]

I will put all updates in here from now on!

Here are a few new updates for the K'talan Mod, these replace the US Update, AND Alt Italians;

1)Update 1.0-This has the former US update and Alternate Italians, minus the special camo for them, which must still be loaded seperately through JSGME.
This update includes the addition of the Super Heavy T95 Gun motor Carriage, a new icon for the M75 APC, and the weapon files were fixed to allow all the new units from the WF 1.04 patch. This also includes the Big Hills terrain for anyone designing a map with >12 levels. Alos this has updated K'talan platoon.oob adding in a bridging tank, which I originally meant to include, with new icon, and the addition of two platoons of this vehicle in the bridging company. Also, this update adds the arrival of an alien/Human hybrid tank, the UP-45 "David", assigned at three to a tank battalion as numbers allow.
 Patch1.0.zip (Size: 2.73 MB / Downloads: 28)

2)Updated Alt Italian camo, for use after 9/43, or even before, if you so desire. Is a drab green as opposed to the desert colored kit in use in desert warfare.

Alt Italian europe paint.zip (Size: 429.45 KB / Downloads: 27)

3)updated K'talan desert camo, to include the new bridge-laying tank.

The Update 1.0 can be unzipped right into your game, the other two must be integrated using JSGME, with the contents of each update in a folder to be added seperately when needed.

4)New Exe's-editied so the correct sides are displayed, ie K'talan, Human Forces, on in-game menus. 2/3/12

5)Sound Patch 3/11/12-Recently discovered while doing some sounds, that there were alot more sounds than were showing up! Edited Sounds.dat to use them, and added in the necessary explosion files. This also has two picture files, just unzip this patch into your main K'talan WF folder.

Hey all,

Adding this to the K'talan mod, since it is sci-fi!! I made these a couple years ago, expanded version of the Italians into 1945, with the SS and possible acquisitions from Germany. I forgot I had them, or I would've just put them in the initial install. I recommend using the JSGME included with the game to load these. Unzip the file Alt Italians into your MODS folder in the K'talan folder, then use JSGME to load it. It will work with e existing scenario's I have with it, even the Hell in the Desert Campaign. Any date, or after December 1942 load the alt Italian european paint so you don't get bmp errors, as the newer vehicles are only finished in drab. I'm making a scenario that will have these in it, I will warn everybody in my descriptions if it uses new Italians or not, in case you don't want to use them!

Enjoy!!

Anybody that has the K'talan mod (newest version), here is a monster scenario. It has Germans, Americans, French, British and Russians in a combined envelopment of the advancing K'talan 6th Motorized Division. The K'talan unit is a fresh unit, untryed in combat, fully outfitted and heading North from off-ship to the parent combat unit. Losses are not acceptable!

Here it is, just started it myself! The humans start first, so you might want to put fast comp player on, there are ALOT of units!! The first turn took about 15 minutes or so for the Humans to move, I'll run it faster from now on. Good luck!!

OK, here is the final version of the K'talan mod, only version is for WF. I've redone the screens, icons, and some other items. There are now Germans, Russians British, Americans, French, and some others to fight against the aliens. There are two scenarios to start, and two DCG's included, this file is 246+mb, so it is large! This is a self-contained game, not just a mod, unzip into your main hardrive, it should create the directory Matrix Games\John Tillers Campaign Series\K'talan WF. DO NOT overwrite an existing install!! This has edited exe's and game files for this mod, so it needs it's own install! There is a doc in the zip called K'taln Mod Background. doc for an intro.
Just an FYI, revamp in progress, WF version all but finished, tweaking the two DCG's for it, would like to make a few more scennies also before release. New screens, icons and everything...

This will be a full, self-contained game, ready to go with no scenario's, campaigns units or otherwise unused items included. Only scenarios and campaigns used by the mod will be available, as well as only Axis nations, with the exception, of course, of K'talia.

Hello all!!

First a HUGE thank you to Antoni for providing this special area for the modders!! Thanks also for Battle Kat for bringing up the idea, and the other members who chimed in support, nice work fellahs!

My mod is not a new thing, but since there seems to be renewed interest in it since bringing the idea over here from the Matrix forum, I am going to revamp the whole thing!

There is a mod for EF, WF, and RS, with the oob being uniform across the board, and vehicles camo'd for season.

I will post the initial files again here later today, but consider those trial, as many changes have already been made to icons and unit files from the originals. I am attaching a document here to briefly explain everything. Thanks all for any interest in this venture, it is my pleasure!!
