West Front / Western Front VERSION 1.0a 12/98

Dear all,

i recently played East Front from 1998 until i got an error i couldn´t solve and deleted it. Found it on my old computer and remembered that i have played it many years ago. Than i noticed while checking my boxes with old software that i have West Front/Western Front, too and installed it successfully but when starting a mission or campaign it crashes.

I got out of the readme.txt that i have the version VERSION 1.0a 12/98 and read that i should upgrade it to version 1.05, but i cannot find the patch 1.05 anywhere. Would try to first patch the game and if i have further problems i would try to use dgVoodoo2 or DXWnd trying to get the game running.

Can someone provide the patch 1.05 or does someone know where to get it?

Ladder stats have disappeared

I was a member in the early to mid 2000's. I recently rejoined and my stats on the Black Powder and Squad Battles ladders have disappeared. Is there any way to recover this? They were there before I re-enlisted.

Also, the control button in the control panel will only let me select 1 ladder and 1 game. When I try to select another title it de-selects whatever I had before.

Thread Post Anomaly / Issue

Recently when creating a new post or reply to an existing, when I finish and select Post Thread the wait icon (circling thingy indicating something is in work) never refreshes as if the latency on the server side is very high. Yet after waiting a few moments if I manually refresh the page my message has normally been posted. I've noticed a few posts by different people that are duplicated - including myself - because we've thought something must have gone wrong with our initial post and selected Post Thread a second time.

On a different issue, when trying to then delete the duplicate post I receive an error message that says I don't have access to the forum in which the post I'm trying to delete resides.

These are obviously not show stoppers and the latency issue may very well be a function of the internet or my web browser settings, but thought I'd make the responsible parties aware just in case.

Hello,

Any tutorials on understanding the txt data on JTS Napoleonic .scn and NIR .scn files?

I am trying to play around with a scenario in Napoleon in Russia. I am not talking about using the Scenario Editor.

I have a copy of the NIR Fletches scenario, and can edit it in a .txt editor.
I also, of course, have the Borodino .scn files and can edit them in a .txt editor.

My copy of NIR got left in Canada when I moved back down to the States over a decade ago.

Basically I want to port the units in the NIR .scn file to the WDS game and then work on improving/changing the scenario using the editor.

They are somewhat different. I'd like to know if anyone can explain or point me to any tutorials/write ups on what the data fields mean, by line, etc.

There are no beginning/end statements, just the raw data.

I am not a programmer but am an old I.T., former engineering tech and I've seen a lot of programming, data fields, etc. Which I used to have to troubleshoot, usually on my own. With some help I might be able to figure it out from there.

Running JTS Games on Linux Mint OS

I haven't seen anything on this topic in the forum, so thought I would mention it. For those who have been around since the disc days and have just updated your JTS games on your windows computer, and you may want to play JTS games on Linux operating systems, I have figured out a method to make that work. This would be by copying your folder on your windows computer and moving it to your Linux computer by USB. There is a lot more to it than just copying and moving, but that is the point of my post, to help with the steps. I use Linux Mint, current version 20.2 and it works fine, games play fine (for the most part) using Play on Linux.

If you have the msi game files, the installation process is easier, again using Play on Linux.

If you have Linux Mint running on a computer and you haven't been able to move your JTS games over to it, I can help. This is not a way to avoid purchase, as you must have the serial number to make the game work. Other Linux distros may work the same, but I have only used Mint.

Contact me if interested in the procedure. I'll send you a PDF with screen shots (to give visual aid). For those unaware, Play on Linux is software that is freely available through your Linux software magager to help play windows programs (not only games) on Linux.

I meant to post this over a year ago when I joined (or potentially re-joined which is the point). I attempted to choose the username "parmenio" (I use this one on pretty much *all* gaming forums) only to find out it was taken... being pretty convinced it was me I attempted a couple of email addresses to recover the account but nada so I registered with "Parmenion"

The other user (parmenio) registered on 09-01-2009, 03:23 PM was active until 09-11-2009, 06:54 PM, posted half-a dozen times and then went dark.

I have added my real name to my profile, perhaps a mod could check the email address on the account and see if it might be related to me... I would prefer to use my *usual* username rather the slight corruption but I understand if it's not possible.

With the new address, I can't seem to log in, using the link on the home page. Cleared cache and cookies.
Screen comes up with my name and password saved, but just gives me a daisy flower circle, Round and 'round and 'round it goes, Where it stops nobody knows,.... and never letting me click "ok" Only way out is to exit page and reload.
A work around has been to go to another page, and use that log in link, and it works fine.

Scenario Data Base Problems

Tried on the Black Powder Forum and no response, so maybe this forum gets some loving.

Tried 3 times yesterday, and once again today, to load a stock scenario into the DB for Campaign Gettysburg (294 Collision in Maryland). When I hit enter I get a blank screen. No error message, no nothing, just a blank screen and this URL:

Can someone please look at that, or failing that, can the scenario data be loaded so I can report a game?

JTS-ACW removing units from campaign

Hi all,

I've recently got hooked on the JTS ACW series. I am playing a campaign and have a question that I am having trouble finding an answer.

I know the command to remove units from map is usually used for exit hexes. However, the option exists whether they are on an exit hex or not.

My question is this: In CAMPAIGN mode, am I able to remove from map and then get the units back later in the campaign as reinforcements, or is the unit gone for the remainder of the campaign?

Heads up Windows 10 update

Latest windows update allows you to increase pointer size " I use size 2 " which also increases crosshair size, and you can now select a solid pointer colour, so I selected purple.
Other colours including green, yellow and brown are available but I thought these might get lost in the terrain.
OK, I know you could previously alter pointer size in earlier windows versions but this is so much better.

Start/ settings/ ease of access /cursor and pointer.
