Not to be out done by the German swine, I'm starting a little DAR section for the Russians. We'll see how it goes!

Below are some shots of my battle in the North against Cargol. We're only on turn 8, so not much to report beyond my initial set-up and plan in all its glory (or was that folly?):rolleyes:

Here are the 3 set-up zones. The one on the right is outlined in white, so is invisible against the snow.

Here is the opening Order of Battle;

...and my plan;

Main objective is to capture the flags of course, but I have also been tasked with trying to get a small group positioned to head north to set-up a blocking position on the main East-West road (see the Google map) in case the Germans try to use it to infiltrate our rear. The SMG company and left rifle platoon will try to infitrate the town, and again try to draw out any heavy german ordinance. The tanks will hang back for the time being until I have a better idea of what he has. Our intelligence reports infantry only, but I'm not betting my limited armour assets on such claims. The mortars and Maxims are positioned to suppress any guns and MGs that are uncovered by my advancing infantry.

That is the plan!

P.S., line of sight is about 1 km, so my armour should be OK where they are...

As you can see, I have set up a strongpoint in the middle, my left flank is also heavily covered. The right flank I have left fairly undefended but if Herroberst tries to cross his inf there my MGs should take care of that and should hopefully soak up any armor he has.
If herroberst takes the most likely avenue of approach (down the middle/my left) There will be one hell of an engagement, casualties on both sides will be high but i hope to turn this area into a meat grinder.

Southern Russia, Dec. 1942. While the battle at Stalingrad was in full swing, the Russians launched Operation “Little Saturn” with the objective of capturing Rostov on the Don River. If the Russians could get to Rostov then the whole German 4th Army and any forces trying to relieve the 6th Army at Stalingrad would be cut off and would lead to the total collapse of the southern front.
The first objective would be the town of Tatsinskaya and the German airstrip located there. The town was the centre of the Luftwaffe attempts to supply Stalingrad by air. With the capture of this town, the fate of the German 6th army would be assured. This would happen on Dec. 23Rd 1942.
This operation will start on Dec. 23Rd 1942 with the Germans in the process of fortifying the town. You have to take the town and the airstrip and prevent the Germans from using it. You will be facing units of the German 6th and 11th Pz Div.s, as well as misc. Units that the Germans are hurrying into position.
Good luck.
Initial Russian forces entering on the map consists of the following:

I will now need whoever the Commander is to take a screenshot of the map from the link below:

http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en-GB&t=h&...19727&z=12

And load it into Paint and place your units as you wish with the few limitaions listed in the picture above, in this post. Try to keep units together as much as possible in order to avoid loss in effectiveness, represented by quality loss. Also, I have planned for platoons to have their own HQs but if you break them up too much they will loose these HQs as well. Remember, this is just a general placement for now, no need to get too picky, yet.
Below is an example of an initial setup. All German units must start behind the RED line on the map below, and if you could indicate facing of the groups to help with the setup when we get into the initial battles.
Your Russians will be comming from the direction of the RED arrow.

Ground condition is light snow.
Dawn
Snowing
Strong wind W

Once we get this done I will give the next set of instructions.
So I will let you guys decide who wants to command the whole force, it does not really matter I just need only one person to be giving me orders. So run it by commitee or whatever I do not care, just let me know.

Is there any interest in fighting out a portion of Operation Little Saturn, Dec. 23 to Dec.27, 1942? It would be a rather informal series of games, not for ladder points, using maps based on Google Earth.
I have modified a set of campaign rules(nothing too difficult, I want to keep it simple and fun) and would need only a commitment from a Russian Commander and a German Commander plus an alternate. This person(s) would run the overall battle and get to play out tactical games as well. Everyone else could play and drop in and out as they wished, as long as they just play for one side, and not switch back and forth. Most things would be on an honour system, again we are trying to have some fun here.
Below is a portion of the map to be used. Everyone will have access to the Google map as I will post a link, and units will be placed and moved around on this map and zoomed in sections.

I will be quickly generating the CMBB maps as needed, and battles will be handed out as they occur. Every battle will have a time limit for completion, with PBEM being the method used. Battles will be kept as small as possible with large ones being battalion sized plus armor. Again, I am trying not to get too complicated. Any orders will be done using MS Paint and a sreenshot of the map, again, keep it simple. Not all battles will be even and some might be darn right lop-sided, but seeing as it does not count on the ladder, so what.
So if there is any interest, let me know here, I would like to start as soon as I finish the last post of the Main Event, if I ever get the last couple of files from the players,... hint...hint
