The Historical Campaign Game (Kitchen Sink; No 52nd AL, No Gavin's Nightmare). In this scenario the Allied Player is given good weather and a variety of drop choices for the 1st British Airborne Division, the US 82nd Airborne Division and the Polish Parachute Brigade. The German player is given some latitude with reinforcements. This scenario starts at 1200 on 17 September so that strategy options that may have an impact on the 1400 turn may be chosen. Both players should refrain from movement, mode change, artillery usage and digging in on the 1200 turn of 17 September. This scenario is designed for Human vs Human play. Enjoy!
October 1944 - Field Marshal Model suggested a powerful, raidl ike armored attack from the Peel Marshes into the east flank of the MARKET-GARDEN salient. If strong enough, this kind of attack might force the British to call off their efforts in the southwestern part of the Netherlands. Endorsing the Army Group B commander's plan, Rundstedt ordered that the XLVII Panzer Corps attack on 27 October with the 9th Panzer Division and attachments from the 15th Panzer Grenadier Division, whereupon the rest of the panzer grenadiers were to exploit early gains of the armor. The attack was to strike sparsely manned positions of the 7th U.S. Armored Division along the Deurne Canal and the Noorder Canal deep within the Peel Marshes west of Venlo. The center of the thrust was to be the town of Meijel, near the junction of the two canals. Only a limited objective was assigned: to carve a quadrilateral bulge into Allied lines six miles deep, encompassing about forty-five square miles. The deepest point of penetration was to be at Asten, northwest of Meijel alongside the Bois le Duc Canal.
Southeast of Nijmegen, Sept 30 1944. Historical American Attack.
Briefing: "On 30 September, the 7th Armored Division under Maj. Gen. Lindsay McD. Silvester had reached jump-off positions southeast of Oploo and was prepared to launch the main drive aimed at clearing the west bank of the Maas. Having rushed north straight out of the battle line along the Moselle River near Metz, General Silvester had found little time in which to reorganize his troops and replace combat losses. Immediate objectives of the 7th Armored Division were the towns of Vortum, close along the Maas, and Overloon, near the northeastern edge of the Peel Marshes. Hoping to break the main crust of resistance at these points, General Silvester intended then to sweep quickly south and bypass expected centers of resistance like Venray and Venlo. The hardened fallschirmjeagers of KG Walther and the remnants of the crack 107th Panzer Brigade had no plans of letting go of the Maas bridgehead and offered stiff resistance for the days and weeks to come."

History: The Battle of Overloon (also known as the 'Battle In The Shadow' because it is historically overshadowed by the battle at Arnhem and 'The Forgotten Battle' by the Dutch, as it was unknown by most people) took place during September and October 1944 between a German division armed with the newest Panther tanks, and first the 7th American Armored Division which was defeated after meeting unexpected heavy resistance, followed by the 11th British Armored Division which defeated the German division at the villages of Overloon and Venray in the Netherlands - both villages were completely destroyed in the battle. The Battle of Overloon was the only tank battle of the Second World War fought in the Netherlands.
What if the allies decided not to try the airbourne attack and instead used the airlift capacity to support a broad front attack in particular clearing the way to Antwerp. In that case the Germans to the West and East probably would not have arrived in such numbers (11 Armoured carried out a limited attack to the East and we will assume 43 Div will go west with several Corps assets and air support). Supply would have been reduced as well to the troops in this area. How far might they get?
The Historical Campaign Game (German & Pole Options). In this scenario the Allied Player is given good weather and a variety of drop choices for the Polish Parachute Brigade. In addition, the German player is given a variety of options; latitude with reinforcements, the ability to mount a major push against the 82nd airborne at Nijmegen, (506 Pz Btl, the Hummel Tiger Co., KG Bruhn, 280 Stg Bde, and 363 VG division), variable placement of the Krafft training Bn, including the possibility to add it to the push against the 82nd. All these troops coupled with shfiting the 107 Pz Bde to Offelt can make for quite a push against 82nd.This scenario starts at 1200 on 17 September so that strategy options that may have an impact on the 1400 turn may be chosen. Both players should refrain from movement, mode change, artillery usage and digging in on the 1200 turn of 17 September. This scenario is designed for Human vs Human play and should be tough for the Allied Player. Enjoy!
Enjoy!
The Historical Campaign Game. Operation Market-Garden was a bold plan that envisioned an "airborne carpet" of troops holding open a corridor for the British 30th Corps to advance on, until it crossed the Rhine at Arnhem. Unfortunately, the II SS Panzer Korps was resting and preparing to refit in the area, and the operation failed with extremely heavy casualties to mainly the British 1st Airborne Division. Of note in this battle is the amazing speed and coordination of the German response, a testament to the organizational skills and decisive leadership of General Model. This version has the 101st Abn and portions of the 82nd Abn being fixed for portions of each day starting with the night of the 19th (change by Rick Bancroft).
"Hypothetical Scenario" After recieving word that the Allies were invading Holland, Hitler ordered that the 1st SS Panzer Corps be moved to the Nijmegen area (begining to arrive on the 21st)and join up with the 2nd SS Panzer Corps and help secure both the Arnhem and Nijmegen Bridges. Now facing two SS Panzer Corps, Gen. Horrocks (XXX Corps) requests reinforcements, Montgomery and Depsey order the 12th Corps and elements of the 8th Corps to move forward and relieve the pressure on XXX Corps' on the 23rd. This Campaign scenario is simular to 0917_04. Which has the 52nd (Lowland) Air Portable Division and vairable Polish Brigade Drop zones (including a drop near Deelen Airfield). However,It is assumed that the British 1st Airborne Division had better communications with England allowing Gen. Erqhuart the ability to change the drop zones of his reinforcements and supplies. Additional changes to the scenario are; 1) The scenario is extended in length by three days. 2) All the impassable hexes have been removed and the escaut canal line has been filled in with both German and Allied forces. 3) Both sides are given additional reinforcements which arrive late in the Campaign. 4) To help the 1st Airborne Division drive on Arnhem, The 1st Abn Recon Sqdrn can break down into platoon'sallowing it to fan out and set up blocking positions. This should give the paratroopers a chance to reach the bridge.
