The 27th Army was formed twice – first destroyed around the Demyansk Pocket in late 1941, it was reinstated in 1942. It again fought around Demyanks and Novgorod. It then shifted towards south, took part in liberation of Kiev and operations in the northern Besarabia. During Jassy-Kischinev, it attacked directly towards Jassy, being the army that scored one of the mos important victories in early hours of this offensive. Immediately afterwards, it started to gratually shift towards southern Romania with Belgrade as final aim. Fighting in Transilvania however verified the situation and it soon become a main unit in the area attempting to capture Turda.
Note: for the sake of gameplay, only roughly over half of its core size is deployed in this scenario, rest considered to be a currently unavailable reserve.

35th Guards Rifle Corps

This unit was first combat active after the battle of Kursk. Released from reserve for 2nd battle of Kharhov in 1943, it later followed the path through Ukraine and assaultedthe position of the Romanians during Jassy offensive with its airborne division at forefront of the assault.
Note: for sake of battle’s size, this Corps also had 180th Rifle Division. It is ommited in this scenario and considered in reserve.

Soviet Airborne Divisions were airborne usually on paper only. After disastrous airdrops of 1941 and 1942, nearly entire airborne branch had to be reorganized. As result, majority of those divisions – 3rd included – fought as lighter variant of standard Guards Divisions. Nevertheless, they proved to be a perfect shock troops.

Guards Divisions are somewhat overrated in western historical sources, and in result probably in SPWW2 too. I decided however to stick to SPWW2 concept of „amazing” guards division with great experience and morale boost. In practice, Guards divisions indeed received better equipment as first units, but they received no additional, advanced training whatsoever and they also went will full conscription if needs were there. In fact, proper elite Guards unit were gone in 1919 after the Civil War, and Soviet Guards were given the title if division fared good on the battlefield, ofthen in singular, one instance. It did not matter if that was pure luck or huge support standing behind the unit – as long as it did better than command expected and polital figures noticed, division was upgraded to Guards standard immediately, though nothing else really followed along. They weere in fact just typical infantry divisions.

Formed right after the start of Barbarossa, this particular unit enjoyed the doubtful honor of retreating all the way towards Bryansk, where it was finally destroyed. Reformed in 1943, it was also attached to southern armies and made its way to Romania via Ukraine.
